Our Projects Summer WorkshopThe gallery featured here represents the culmination of hands-on media workshops that Apollo Outreach brings to classrooms and community settings across Lorain County. Each piece on display began as an idea in a young person's mind and was shaped through collaboration, experimentation, and patient mentorship. Students learn the fundamentals of filmmaking—from storyboarding and framing to editing and sound—while discovering their own creative voice. The result is a body of work that reflects real experiences, honest perspectives, and the confidence that comes from seeing a project through from concept to completion. These short films are not just exercises in technique; they are personal statements from students who are learning to observe the world around them and interpret it through the lens of a camera.
The media on this page spans a range of techniques and approaches, including stop-motion animation built frame by frame and green-screen productions that transport student storytellers into imaginative settings. Working in small groups, participants develop communication skills, leadership abilities, and a sense of shared purpose as they divide responsibilities and support one another through each stage of production. Staff and faculty dedicated to helping young people grow as artists, citizens, and leaders guide the process, offering technical instruction while encouraging creative risk-taking. For many students, these workshops mark their first experience with professional-grade equipment and workflows, opening doors to new possibilities in cinema, digital media, and visual storytelling that they may carry forward into future education and careers.
Beyond the finished films, the gallery offers a window into the evolving neighborhoods and communities where Apollo Outreach works. The stories captured here reflect the daily lives, foods, traditions, and experiences of young people from diverse backgrounds, giving viewers a genuine perspective on the region. The initiative believes that media education is a force for local and global understanding, building bridges between communities through shared creative effort. As the program continues to grow and reimagine its approach, the gallery itself evolves, welcoming new student work each season. Visitors are invited to observe how these young filmmakers see their city and their own place within it, and to appreciate the time, creativity, and dedication that went into every frame.
